Christmas in Spain

3rd December 2014

Christmas in Spain is very different to England.

Some of the main differences are:

  • They celebrate the winter solstice on the 21st of December. On that day they jump over a fire to protect themselves from any illnesses.

  • On Christmas Day they have their Christmas dinner after midnight and it is turkey and truffles. Their Christmas is more about seeing friends and family than getting presents.

  • On the 28th of December it is innocent’s day, and they play practical jokes on friends and family.

  • On January 6th they celebrate the three king’s day. The children leave shoes on their windowsill filled with straw and carrot for the donkey. In the morning the kings have left a present in their shoe.
